Seven bodies retrieved from the Kiteezi garbage landfill collapse site remain unclaimed, according to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke.
The devastating incident, which buried several homes under debris, has claimed 21 lives so far.
Addressing a news conference at police headquarters in Kampala today, Rusoke has urged family members and loved ones to come forward to claim the bodies and provide closure for the affected families. The unclaimed bodies are being held at the mortuary, awaiting identification and collection by their families.
Meanwhile, Kituuma says police is working in collaboration with other agencies in the ongoing rescue efforts.
The recent collapse of the Kiteezi landfill has sparked widespread concern and outrage, highlighting significant loopholes and policy gaps in waste management.
The landfill, which has been the primary dumping site for Kampala’s waste for over two decades, has long been under scrutiny for its environmental and health risks.
