Police Hunt Yaobai Cement Driver After Fatal Crash Kills Officer in Moroto

Police in Moroto are searching for a trailer driver attached to Yaobai Cement Factory who allegedly knocked dead a police constable and fled the scene along the Moroto-Soroti Road. The fatal crash occurred on Tuesday, 30th June 2026, at around 3:30 pm opposite Yaobai Cement Factory in Nadunget Sub-County, according to Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole.

Longole said the deceased, Police Constable Isaac Ogira, from the Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Moroto Zonal Headquarters, was riding a Yamaha YBR motorcycle registration number UP 8113 from Nadunget ASTU Police Barracks towards Moroto town. He said that upon reaching the area opposite Yaobai Cement Factory, the officer collided with a trailer entering the main road from the factory premises.

The trailer, a white CHACKMAN, was identified as motor vehicle registration number UA 783EZ. “The driver fled the scene immediately and remains unknown and at large,” Longole said. He added that Ogira died from injuries sustained in the crash. Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was caused by careless driving by the driver of the trailer.

Traffic officers and investigators visited the scene, while the body of the deceased was taken to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police towed both the trailer and the motorcycle to Moroto Central Police Station as investigations continue to trace and arrest the driver.“Police call upon members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the driver of MV UA 783EZ to report to Moroto CPS, the nearest Police Station, or ASTU Zonal Headquarters Nadunget immediately,” Longole said. He also urged motorists to exercise caution, especially when joining main roads, to prevent road crashes and loss of lives.
