Prosecution to Add Fresh Charge against Besigye in Court Martial

Proseuctiion at the General Court Martial says it has fresh charges against Dr. Kiiza Besigye and co-suspect Hajji Obeid Lutale.

Prosecution says they are now seeking permission from the Court to have the chargehset amended to introduce the charge and include new suspects 

This has been the revelation of Col. Rapheal Mugisha ; the lead prosecutor as he informed the 7 member court that during their course of investigations, intelligence information bred new charges  which are likely to be  “Treachery”. 

The Treachery charges if brought  will now be added to the already existing charges of offences relating to security and unlawful possession of firearms and ammutions . This now brings the number of charges to three.

However the new charges could not be read on Tuesday because Dr. Besigye and Hajji Obeid refused their legal team to proceed with any hearing in the absence of one of their lawyer Eron Kiiza who was arrested in the morning in the General Court Martial court hall. 

The court’s chairman Brig . Gen Freeman Mugabe has now adjourned the case to the 13th/ January on condition that the court first deliberates on the behaviour of Eron Kiiza whom be accuses of repeatedly ignoring warnings of being unruly in the court hall. 

The suspects are back on remand at Luzira Upper prison
