Boda Boda Riders Foil Daylight Robbery in Kireka
A suspected armed robber was been lynched following a foiled daylight robbery in Kireka.
The deceased suspect and two others had allegedly attacked and robbed a 52-year-old woman after trailing her from a nearby bank.
The three robbers who were travelling on a motorcycle attacked Elizabeth Namwanje, who was driving a Spacio. The incident happened on Monday at 4:00 pm in Kamuli Lubawo zone, Kireka, Kira Municipality.
The assailants smashed Namwanje’s vehicle and stole an unspecified amount of money. However, she fought back, knocking one of the robbers, but they fled the scene before being arrested by the boda-boda riders.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, says boda-boda riders swiftly responded to the incident. He says that one of the suspects was lynched and another one identified as Nichola Mayombo, a 35-year-old resident of Kireka railway zone was arrested, while the third suspect remains at large.
Police recovered the suspects’ motorcycle registration number UGH239S and two pangas.
Onyango said that Namwanje was rushed by police officers to Life Link Hospital in Kyaliwajala for treatment after experiencing high blood pressure.
In more crime news Kampala Metropolitan Police carried out two successful operations in Katwe and Kinawataka, arresting notorious criminals and disrupting marijuana trafficking rings.
According to Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the first operation took place in Katwe on December 16, where police apprehended Mayanja Daglas, alias “Terrorist,” a known gang leader wanted for aggravated robbery. Mayanja had been on the police watchlist and had been in hiding after being released from Luzira prison 11 months ago.
In a separate operation, Jinja Road Police, in collaboration with the UPDF, local leaders, and vigilantes, conducted a joint operation in Kinawataka, targeting criminals involved in phone snatching and marijuana trafficking.
Onyango says five suspects, including one female, were arrested and caught red-handed selling marijuana. The suspects include Patrick Olowo, alias “Machete,” a notorious criminal involved in house breakings and phone snatching.
Onyango says all suspects were taken to Kinawataka Police Station, charged, and are pending completion of inquiries and court proceedings.
