Tragic Incident in Katwe Market: National Water and Sewerage Corporation Employee Fatally Injured
One staff member of National Water and Sewerage Corporation died last evening and another was critically injured after an incident while repairing a sewerage line in Katwe market, Makindye division, Kampala.
According to Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the deceased, Melid Twinomugisha, a 40-year-old male employee, was working on the sewerage line when the tragedy occurred.
Twinomugisha’s colleague, Victor Baguma, was also injured in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago hospital.
The sewerage line had been damaged by ongoing road construction works in the area, prompting the National Water and Sewerage Corporation to send a team to repair it.
Onyango says an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway, with engineers set to join the probe to determine what exactly happened inside the sewerage line.
