The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has urged road users to take extra precautions to ensure safety during this Easter period.
Michael Kananura the Directorate spokesperson noted that Easter season is one of the busiest times on Uganda’s roads, with increased travel resulting in higher traffic volumes and a greater risk of crashes.
“While we recognize Easter as a period of joy and reflection, we also acknowledge that it is one of the busiest times on our roads. Increased travel often results in higher traffic volumes, greater risk of crashes with the likelihood of losing or injuring lives due to avoidable crashes,” he said.
Kananura highlighted key road safety guidelines, including not drinking and driving, avoiding speeding, wearing seatbelts and helmets, avoiding distractions, and respecting all traffic signs and signals.
He also appealed to passengers to speak out against reckless driving, saying “Your voice could save lives.”
Kananura revealed that the Directorate will intensify road safety enforcement over the Easter period, with increased patrols and checkpoints.
The public has been encouraged to report any road safety concerns or incidents to the Directorate’s toll-free number, 0800199099.
