Judge Allows Withdrawal Petition Against Kira MP Musisi

The High Court in Wakiso has permitted Daniel Kananura to withdraw his election petition contesting the victory of National Unity Platform (NUP) MP George Musisi in Kira Municipality.

Justice George Okello, who presided over the case, ordered that each party bear its own costs, declaring Musisi validly elected.

The ruling ends the election dispute without determining the merits of Kananura’s allegations, which included claims of violence, voter bribery, and vote-rigging.

Justice Okello criticized Kananura’s petition as “very badly prepared” and noted that Kananura failed to gather necessary evidence after the election results were declared.

Kananura, who finished third in the election, sought to withdraw the petition on October 8, 2026, claiming his former lawyers rushed the filing and omitted key evidence.

However, Justice Okello doubted this explanation, emphasising that Kananura had ample time to prepare.
