In a daring rescue mission a notorious thug was shot and killed in Mukono during a robbery gone wrong in the early hours of Friday.
The incident occurred at around 2:00 am in Katwe-Bukerere village, Bukerere ward, Goma Division, Mukono Municipality, Mukono District.
A group of eight thugs, armed with pangas, attacked several homes in the area, robbing various items. The victims included Mugabe Robbert, a 45-year-old resident, who lost his motor vehicle, laptop, and Samsung television set.
Another victim, Kisule Rogers, a 41-year-old employee of the Medical Research Council, was robbed of his loudspeakers, television set, wallet, national documents, cash, and two phones.
The thugs used pangas to harm their victims. However, one of the victim’s wives called a neighbor who had an armed private security guard. The guard responded quickly, shooting and killing one of the robbers and injuring two others, who escaped with injuries.
The motor vehicle and other stolen items were recovered, and four pangas and other housebreaking implements were found at the scene. The body of the slain thug, identified as a Lubyanza, a bodaboda rider, was also recovered.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the thugs are residents of Bukerere and Nabusugwe and used the stolen motor vehicle to disguise their identities and raid the homes of their victims. The scene has been cordoned off by Mukono Police, and further investigations are ongoing.
