Corruption Trial of Three MPs Resumes: Key Witness Testifies in High Court’s Anti-Corruption Division

The Corruption trial of three MPs, Yusuf Mutembule, Paul Kamba and Cissy Namujju has resumed today before the Highcourt’s Anti-corruption Division in Nakasero.

Prosecution is still leading with its key witness and complainant Mariam Wagandya; the Chairperson of the UHRC.

Waganday testfied that she recorded a conversation between her and the alleged corrupt legislators while they were soliciting a 20% kick-back from the proposed enhanced budged of the UHRC so that they would exert influence on the parliament’s budget committee and officials from Ministry of finance to increase the commission’s budget to 58billion shillings .

However to date, prosecution and the defence team are still locking horns on whether the said recording can be played in court so that Wangadya can identify the voices.

The three MPs were released on a 50million shillings cash bail after spending 55 days on remand at Luzira prison.

However MP Akamba is still incerrated on other charges .
