The Highcourt’s Anti-corruption division has granted a 150 Million shillings cash bail to three jailed MPs.
The three MPs; Yusuf Mutembule of Bunyole East , Busiki County MP Paul Akamba and Lwengo District Woman MP Cissy Donozia Namujju have each been ordered to a 50m shilings bail and desposit their respective passports in court.
Their 9 surities have each been ordered to sign a non-cash bond of 100m shillings to ensure that the MPs return back to court for trial.
Justice Lawrence Gidudu has temporarily released the 3 MPs after finding out that their back-fired scheme of soliciting from the UHRC budget did not involve personal violence nor any monies / assets to be recovered by government.
The prosecution alleges that MPs; Mutembule, Akamba and Namujju on May 13, 2024, at Hotel Africana in Kampala solicited money from Mariam Wangadya the chairperson of the UHRC an undue advantage of 20 per cent of the anticipated budget of the UHRC for the financial year 2024/2025.
However Justice Gidudu says bail should not be used to frustrate the progress of the case as cases of corruption are treated seriously by court. The 3 MPs will now return to court on the 8th/ August for further hearing of the case
