18 children rescued in a suspected human trafficking case

Police in Wakiso District have rescued 18 children in a suspected human trafficking case and arrested two suspects.

The children, aged between three and 12 years, were found living in two dilapidated rooms in Kakunyu Village, Wakiso Town Council, following a tip-off from local council leaders.

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma says officers from Namusera Police Post, working with local leaders and residents, conducted an operation at the premises and rescued the children.

The juveniles, comprising nine boys and nine girls, are believed to have been transported from Luweero and Masindi districts under unclear circumstances.

The suspects have been identified as Murindwa George, a 33-year-old teacher, and Banirye Madina, a 24-year-old casual worker. Both are in police custody as investigations continue.

Kituuma says police are working to trace the children’s families and reunite them with their parents.

He has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of child trafficking to the authorities.
