Police Hunt for Suspects in Murder of 43-Year-Old Nakasongola Man

Residents of Namunsala Zone in Kakooge Town Council, Nakasongola District, are still grappling with shock after the body of 43-year-old Fred Bunjo was found lying outside his home under unclear circumstances. Bunjo, who lived alone following a divorce, was discovered early Monday morning at around 6:00 a.m. lying on his back within the compound of his residence. His body was covered in mud, likely from overnight rainfall.

His nearest relative, his biological father, lives about 80 metres away. According to police, the discovery was first made by a resident who immediately alerted authorities. Savannah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima says preliminary findings point to a violent struggle before Bunjo’s death.

“There were visible signs of struggle at the scene, including footprints around the body and marks on the neck consistent with strangulation,” Twiineamazima said. Investigators also found that Bunjo’s house door remained locked, even though keys were recovered from his pocket—raising suspicion that he may have been attacked outside shortly after arriving home.

Police further suspect that the deceased may have spent time drinking with unidentified individuals earlier in the evening, although the exact circumstances remain unclear. Following the report, police secured the scene and deployed crime scene officers, homicide detectives, and the canine unit.

Photographs were taken, statements recorded from relatives, and the body was transported to Nakasongola Hospital for postmortem examination. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible. A manhunt for the suspects has since been launched.
