Police Intesifies Operation To Rid The Metropolitan of Crime

The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) South has arrested 109 suspects following coordinated operations conducted on February 23 and 24, 2026, across various divisions within the metropolitan area.
 
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of KMP South, the intelligence-led operations targeted crime hotspots and suspected locations for criminal activity in the Kabalagala, Katwe, and Nsangi police divisions.
 
The areas covered included Mukwano Roundabout, the Railway Line, and 6th Street in Kabalagala; Zana Parish in Makindye-Ssabagabo; Valley Zone in Salaama; as well as Nakasozi, Kimbejja, Magwa-Mpangala, Kisozi, Nakiragala, Nagalabi, and Sumba in Nsangi.
 
Owoyesigyire stated that the crackdown aimed to address issues related to narcotics abuse, mugging, simple robberies, and motorcycle theft. He also mentioned that the police recovered several motorcycles and number plates suspected to be linked to theft.
Meanwhile
 
Police in the Kira Road Division and Mukono District have arrested 28 suspects during a series of coordinated operations aimed at targeting criminal gangs in various city suburbs.

These intelligence-led operations were carried out in Kamwokya, Kyanja, Kisaasi, Kitifumba, Shimoni, Kira Taxi Park, Mbalwa-Namugongo, and Wantoni.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspects are linked to robbery, assault of members of the public, and the use of narcotics in identified crime hotspots.

Among those arrested are individuals connected to a reported gang rape incident in Mbalwa.

Police recovered suspected narcotics, stolen mobile phones, sharp objects believed to have been used in robberies, and a computer allegedly used for cracking phone passwords.
