American Saxophonist and Jazz performer Kirk Whalum is delighted to have returned to Uganda for a third time.
The 66 year old artiste is one of the guest artistes that will be performing at the DFCU Jazz concert that will take place on saturday 10th, May, 2025 at the Kampala Serena Hotel
He arrived at Entebbe International airport on Thursday 8th, April,2025 and saidhe is excited to be back.
“It’s been many years since I last performed in Uganda and am beyond thrilled to have returned to the beautiful continent of Africa. I can’t wait to reconnect with the incredible community of jazz lovers who have shown so much love and support over the years,” he said on his social media handles.
He was welcomed by US based Saxophonist Isaiah Katumwa, who also arrived in Uganda to be at the same event.
After the Serena concert, he will head to South Africa for an evening with Kirk Whalum concert that will take place at the Theatre of Marcellus, Emperors Palace on 16th, May,2025.
With a career spanning nearly four decades, the legend has established himself as a master of his craft, blending contemporary jazz, gospel, and R&B to create a unique sound that resonates with audiences worldwide.
His distinguished career includes collaborations with music legends like Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, and Quincy Jones, as well as Grammy-winning performances and over 25 albums under his own name.
The artist’s music is characterised by his warm tone, emotive phrasing, and genre-bending brilliance, which has captivated fans across the globe. Many may recall his iconic solo on the late Whitney Houston’s iconic “I Will Always Love You”, a moment that forever changed the landscape of modern ballads.
