Democratic Alliance Will Not Abandon Alien Skin, says Mpuuga

The National Coordinator of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Mathias Mpuuga, has reaffirmed his support for dancehall artist Patrick Mulwana, known as Alien Skin, despite the artist’s recent controversies and clashes with fellow musicians and security personnel.

Alien Skin’s altercations, including a confrontation with security at Enkuuka in Lubiri and a clash with Pius Mayanja (Pallaso) at the Empelle Festival in Buloba, have raised questions about Mpuuga’s alignment with the controversial artist.

Speaking at a Friday press conference, Mpuuga defended his stance, highlighting the importance of supporting and guiding overlooked young talent rather than condemning them.

“We cannot ignore these young people. They are talented but have been overlooked by society. Their actions this week reflect this neglect,” Mpuuga stated.

He added  that the DA aims to rehabilitate such individuals and help them become productive members of society.

The Nyendo-Mukungwe MP assured that the DA would not abandon Alien Skin.

“We have rescued many individuals with similar histories, and some have gone on to assume significant national roles. We are committed to helping Mr. Mulwana and others like him,” he said.

Last month, the DA signed a cooperation agreement with Alien Skin, describing it as a strategic move to promote democratic values and inclusivity.

The agreement has sparked public debate due to the artist’s alleged violent history, including an assault on medical staff and security personnel at St. Francis Hospital, Nsambya.

The recent clashes, including disruptions at the Empelle Festival and the Ekuuka concert, have escalated tensions in Uganda’s entertainment sector.

Experts have called for urgent intervention by police and music industry leaders to address the growing violence.

Reports indicate Alien Skin’s gang attempted to disrupt Pallaso’s performance at the Empelle Festival, leading to a retaliatory attack by Pallaso’s team.

The violence has since escalated, with Pallaso allegedly attacking Alien Skin’s home and damaging property.
