Molly Katanga’s Defence Presents Medical Evidence in Murder Trial

The trial of businesswoman Molly Katanga continued on Wednesday before the Criminal Division of the High Court, with the defence presenting evidence aimed at challenging the prosecution’s case.

A senior orthopaedic consultant and trauma surgeon testified that he treated Molly Katanga for injuries she allegedly sustained on the day her husband, businessman Henry Katanga, died from a gunshot wound.

Appearing before Justice Rosette Comfort Kania, the surgeon said he operated on Katanga at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) and observed that the injuries she sustained had significantly compromised the functioning of her limbs. According to the doctor, the injuries left her unable to lift objects weighing more than one kilogram.

The surgeon, who requested that his identity and photograph not be published, described the injuries as “defence wounds” resulting from an assault.

He is the third defence witness in the high-profile murder trial, which has been ongoing for nearly two years.

Molly Katanga has been on remand since 2024 on charges of murdering her husband, Henry Katanga. She is jointly charged with the couple’s two daughters, Martha Nkwazi and Patricia Kakwenza, whom prosecutors accuse of helping their mother conceal evidence that could have been crucial in proving the alleged murder.
