NARO partners with Industrialists to Advance Uganda’s Agro-Industrialisation Agenda

The National Agriculture Research Organisation (NARO) is forging strategic partnerships with industrialists to advance Uganda’s agro-industrialisation agenda, a vital initiative aimed at tackling the various bottlenecks faced in agribusiness and enhancing farmer engagement across the sector.

Frank Mugabi, the head of communications at NARO, emphasizes that this collaboration is designed to catalyze private investments, address challenges in production, and ultimately boost agricultural productivity. The initiative will particularly focus on key crops such as macadamia nuts, coffee, and avocado alongside maize production. Notably, Amafh Farms is at the forefront of the macadamia cultivation effort, having already established over 700 acres of macadamia orchards.

Their ambitious plan includes the planting of an additional 25 million trees, a move that is expected to generate employment opportunities for approximately 2.5 million people, promising significant economic boosts and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
