The mighty Family Comedian Sam Okanya has been detained over failure to pay a 5 million shillings loan he obtained from a money lender.
According to a statement he shared with his friends, he is being detained at Kibuye Police Station and is likely to stay there for two months until he pays the money.
He said he reached out to a city money lender who offered to lend him Ugx 2.5 million. He also handed in his car as security because he was in need of money to pay his bills.
However, Sammy has since failed to pay the money on time, a situation that has caused the loan to balloon to 5 million due to the interest attached to it.
“Unfortunately, the issue has now grown beyond what I expected. I was transferred to Kabalagala Police Station, and they are now demanding that I pay 5 million shillings as a police bond and bring a guarantor so that I can be released. I have been given two months to clear the money, but until I raise the bond, I cannot leave police custody,” he said.
He said life has been hard for him since his medical operation and he has sometimes even failed to get money for basic things like food because he is not yet fit to work.
“Life has been extremely hard since my operation. I had no stable place to stay or even food sometimes, which pushed me into taking that small loan using my car,” he revealed.
He ended the statement by appealing to anyone with a kind heart to help him raise the 5 million shillings so he can get released and rebuild his life.
