At least two prison officers and a child have been shot dead at Kiboga Central Prisons. The incident occurred at around 6:30 am on Monday when Moses Anguyo, a prison warder, allegedly picked up his gun and shot dead two fellow officers of Kiboga Central Prisons.
During the shooting, three other people were also injured and rushed to Kiboga Hospital for treatment. Frank Baine, the Uganda Prisons Service spokesperson, confirmed the shooting but said he was yet to get full details and identities of the casualties.
“Right now officers are trying to contain the incident. Give me some time to get a full report, but I can confirm that two are dead and three are injured,” Baine told the media. It’s further reported that during the shooting, a child was hit by a stray bullet and also died, hence bringing the number of the deceased to three.
Sources say after the shooting, the warder fled with a gun to nearby hills, and police, backed by the Uganda People’s Defense Forces, have launched a manhunt for the armed suspect. Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, said that he is also still gathering information on the shooting.
“The area DPC has rushed to the scene and is waiting for details on the incident,” Kigozi said.
