Troubled Police Boss Nixon Remanded for Kagezi Murder

After ten years of evading justice, Senior Superintendent of police Nixon Agasirwe Karuhanga has today been charged and remanded to Luzira prison for the 2015  murder of former prosecutor Joan Namazzi  Kagezi.

Agasirwe was arrested last month after his name was mentioned as the person who paid for the hit on Kagezi .

During an intense hearing before the Highcourt’s International Crimes Division on 21st May 2025, Prosecution’s key witness Daniel Kisekka told the court that a person named “Nixon” who was  driving a government vehicle wanted  Kagezi dead  and paid each of the 4 assassins Ugx 500,000 on top of promising them a hefty pay of 200,000 US Dollars after the job is done

However Kisekka said he never met Agasairwe in person but would often meet with  his co-accused John Kisekka who brokered the deal to murder Kagezi.

Kisseka is currently serving a 35 year prison sentence after he  pleaded guilty to murdering Kagezi for reasons of interfering in cases involving Muslims.

It should be noted that at the time of her murder by shooting on 30th March 2015, Kagezi was the lead prosecutor in the 2010 Kampala bombing case.

After Kisekka’s testimony, investigators arrested Agasairwe and hence charged him with the murder of Kagezi.

Agasairwe was brought to the Nakawa Chief magistrates court this morning at 10 am in a police drone and at 2 minutes passed 11am, he was arraigned before chief magistrate Esther Nyadoi.

Agasirwe has been barred from pleading to the capital offences of murder which are only triable and bailable by the Highcourt .

Despite repeated pleas to the court to wait for his defence attorney, the court insisted he should be remanded to Luzira upper prison until 8th July as his lawyer will access the record of proceedings.

Prosecution still reports of incomplete investigations into the matter.
