Singer turned politician Hajjati Stecia Mayanja has snubbed summons demanding she appear before the disciplinary committee of the National Peasants Party (NPP)
Mayanja says she has no reason for her to appear before the committee.
Through her lawyers of Lunar Advocates, Stecia said she did not violate any regulations of the party when she performed at an event that was organized by the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Her lawyers say Stecia is a contracted artiste under the management of AL MAGIC Uganda and has the right to perform at any event regardless of whether its political or not.
“ Our client is registered to your party as individual and not as a performing artiste and there should be a line drawn to separate the two roles,” they said.
They further said that the party doesn’t have rights to stop Stecia from performing at different political events and advised the party to withdraw the summons if they want to continue working with the singer.
Following her performance at an NRM event recently, NPP Secretary General Sharif Ssentongo Nambale issued a public notice calling for the singer to appear before the National Executive Committee or face disciplinary action that may include being suspended from the Party.
