Parliamentary Committee Summons Minister Over Extension of UWEC Merger

Written by on July 10, 2024

The parliamentary committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and state enterprises has summoned the minister of public service Wilson Muruli Mukasa over his extension of the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) merger to Uganda World Life Authority(UWA).

This was after one of the committee members Eddie Kwizera sought clarity from UWEC executive director James Musinguzi on how far the center had implemented the rationalization process.

In response, the executive Director –UWEC James  Musinguzi said that the merger of UWEC to UWA was extended for more than three months by Minister Muruli Mukasa starting July to September this year 2024.

However, this raised concerns from MPs leading to the chairperson of the committee Medard Sseggona questioning where minister Muruli mukasa got the powers and authority to extend the rationalization of UWEC before consulting parliament.

According to the rationalization bills recently assented to by President Museveni, the rationalization process is meant to start on 1st July 2024.
