Reports from Mukono indicate that the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo Police Station, Assistant Superintendent of Police Emma Bagenda, was shot dead on Sunday night in an attack by suspected robbers.
Preliminary information shows that the shooting happened at around 10:20 pm, when Bagenda and his team attempted to stop thugs travelling on a motorcycle.
The suspects allegedly opened fire, killing the OC, injuring one police constable, and escaping with a police gun. Messages circulating among officers indicate that the team had been pursuing the robbers before they came under attack. Mukono District Police Commander Benard Mugerwa is yet to comment.
One of Bagenda’s colleagues described the fallen officer as “a very intelligent, jolly, and knowledgeable officer.” “He served most of his life as an OC in the islands of Kalangala, and he had just come to Ntawo. Now he is gone.” One colleague added: “Emma was our Engineer of the Terrain model during Station Command Course 3.”
