Police Probe Suspected Suicide of Kenyan Pastor in Kitgum

Police in Kitgum District are investigating a suspected suicide after a Kenyan national and pastor was found hanging from a mango tree in Orom East Sub-county. The deceased, identified as Fred Nkulala, was an adult pastor and peasant farmer residing in Lobiri Village, Katwotwo Parish in Orom East Sub-county.

According to a report issued by Aswa East Regional Police spokesperson Joe Oloya, Nkulala’s body was discovered on May 24 by David Lokwang, a resident of the same village, together with another casual worker. The two had reportedly gone to Nkulala’s garden for an agreed task, only to find him hanging from a mango tree inside the garden.

Oloya said a case of suspected suicide was registered at Orom Police Station, prompting a team of investigators led by the District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCID), D/ASP Mboowa Yasin, alongside Scene of Crime officers and homicide detectives, to visit the scene.

Police documented the scene before transporting the body to Kitgum General Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.Relatives of the deceased were reportedly travelling from Kenya to witness the postmortem process.

Police had not disclosed a possible motive behind the suspected suicide by press time, and investigations were still ongoing.
