The Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested 42 suspects in a crackdown on crime hotspots across the city.
A joint police and local leader operation conducted today between 12:30 am and 4:00 am targeted notorious areas including Nakivubo channels, New Taxi Park, Namayiba Bus Park, and Namungona near the Northern Bypass.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said the operation was the result of meticulous planning and intelligence gathering.
“We have been working tirelessly with local leaders and community members to identify and apprehend suspects involved in robberies and marijuana use,” Onyango said.
He explained that local leaders played a crucial role in providing intelligence, while community members came forward to provide information that aided in the arrests.

The suspects were arrested for involvement in robberies and marijuana use, and police recovered exhibits from various hideouts, indicating a significant disruption to criminal networks.
Onyango added that the Kampala Metropolitan Police plan to continue their intelligence-led operations, profiling suspects to facilitate effective prosecution of habitual offenders.
He noted that the police will also work with stakeholders to reduce crime in targeted areas, including New Taxi Park, Namayiba Bus Park, and the Northern Bypass.
This latest operation, Onyango said, is part of a broader effort by the police to address crime in Kampala, with a focus on community-police collaboration and intelligence-led operations.
