The Ministry of Gender announced that another group of Ugandans, who had gone to work in Saudi Arabia and were later detained for various reasons, was set to return on Monday.
The State Minister for Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations, Hon. Esther Anyakun, stated that this group consists of 20 individuals.
Their arrival marks the latest effort in an ongoing repatriation process, with a total of 146 Ugandans brought back home over the past week, including 54 who arrived over the weekend.
“This is a key development and underscore our commitment to the welfare of citizens abroad and we continue to work with our partners to ensure safe return of all ugandans still stranded” Anyakun stated.
This initiative follows an agreement between Uganda and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to pardon Ugandan migrant workers who had been stranded in deportation centers and prisons across the country.
Minister Anyakun has urged Ugandans to take advantage of this opportunity. She provided these updates on Monday morning at the Media Centre.
“I would like to call upon ugandans who find themselves in these circumstances to take advantage of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia pardon which has a window period of 60day” Anyakun added.
