Kasubi community set to benefit from modern school redevelopment

Residents of Kasubi are expected to benefit from improved access to quality education as the redevelopment of Kasubi Family Primary School nears completion, restoring and expanding learning opportunities at the area’s only government school.
The Shs3.5 billion project, funded by Roofings Group under its Forever Education corporate social responsibility programme, is transforming a school that had fallen into disrepair following years of infrastructure challenges and land disputes that led to the destruction of some classroom blocks.
Speaking during a media tour of the project, Roofings Group Brand Manager Edwin Abaasa said the company chose to invest in the school because of its importance to the community and the urgent need to improve learning conditions for local children.
“The school was in a very poor state and had suffered extensive destruction because of the challenges involving land grabbers,” Abaasa said, adding that the company partnered with Kampala Capital City Authority to restore the facility and create a lasting impact on the community.
Abaasa said the redevelopment is expected to provide learners with modern classrooms and a conducive learning environment while strengthening access to affordable education for families in Kasubi.
The redevelopment is being undertaken in phases, with the primary school section currently about 80 per cent complete and the overall project standing at 50 per cent completion. The company expects the entire project to be completed by the end of the year.
Project Lead Lucky Ninsiima said the first phase consists of a 14-classroom primary school block that will accommodate pupils currently studying in temporary structures.
Once learners move into the new block, construction will begin on the second phase, which will include a kindergarten section, a multipurpose hall, staff quarters, a sick bay, a bakery, a canteen and landscaped grounds.
Ninsiima said the project goes beyond constructing buildings and seeks to improve the quality of education by supporting both learners and teachers.
“We needed to make a real impact on the community and the generations of children who attend this school,” he said.
The redevelopment is expected to ease challenges faced by the school’s more than 700 learners, who have studied for years in deteriorating facilities. The improved infrastructure is also expected to attract more pupils and enhance academic performance.
During the groundbreaking ceremony in May this year, KCCA Deputy Executive Director Benon Kigenyi described the redevelopment as an investment in both infrastructure and human potential, noting that quality education remains one of the most effective tools for addressing inequality in vulnerable communities.
Roofings says the project is part of its wider corporate social responsibility programme, which is implemented through the Forever Education, Forever Health and Forever Forestry initiatives.
The company has undertaken similar education projects in other parts of the country, including at St Peter’s School in Namanve, where enrolment grew from about 200 to more than 1,200 pupils following infrastructure improvements and scholarship support.
