At least 11 people have been killed in a fatal road crash along the Masaka–Mbarara Highway in Lwengo District.
According to Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, the accident occurred in the early hours of this morning at around 1:30 a.m. at Karegero Corner.
The crash involved a bus, registration number UAL 492H, belonging to Kasaba Bus Company, and a Tata lorry, registration number UBH 013Q.
Authorities say eight people died on the spot, while three later succumbed to their injuries. Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to Lyantonde Hospital for treatment.
Among the deceased is a police officer attached to Mukono Police Station, identified as PC Abaho Ernest.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Lyantonde Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
Efforts are underway to tow the wreckage to the police station as investigations into the exact cause of the crash continue.
