Besigye Files Bail Application at High Court

Four time presidential Candidate Rt. Col Dr. Kiiza Besigye and his aide Hajji Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya are asking that the Highcourt’s Criminal Division to release them on  bail pending commital to face trial on charges of Treason.

The pair contend that they are of advanced ages of 68 and 65 respectively which makes it difficult to handle harsh prison conditions which they have already experienced for the last 100 days they have been in detention at Luzira prison.

Dr. Besigye and Hajji Lutale in their bail application already recieved by the court’s  registry claim they are law abiding citizens and have each been introduced by thier area chairperson as a permanet resident with no chances of absconding to bail .

The 2 men have also undertaken in their joint application not to interfere with on-going police investigation but to abide with any bail conditions set by court .

They have further stated that just like any other citizens , they enjoy the presumption of innocence as the state has not yet found them guilty on the Treason charges.

Dr. Besigye particularly has listed his intcidents where he says he has previously charged and bailed out in grave offences of rape , Treason and Terrorism but he has always honoured the bail conditions although the cases have been dismissed.

Besigye and Lutale were arrested in November 2024 from Riverside Hotel in Nairobi Kenya on alleged offences of Treason for which they are yet to committed to the Highcourt .

They were first charged in the General Court but the Supreme Court nullified thier trial last month after it banned the trail of civillians in millitary courts.

However they remained in detention until last week when they were  arraigned before the Nakawa court .
