Armed Group Raids Bugoye Police Station in Kasese, One Killed

Police in Kasese District are investigating an attack on Bugoye Sub-County Police Station by a group of about six people armed with pangas.

The incident happened at around 2 a.m. on October 1, 2026, according to police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma.

“People estimated to be six in number, armed with pangas, attacked Bugoye Sub-County Police Station. They went for an officer on duty and attempted to seize his firearm,” Kituuma said in a statement.

The officer resisted the attack and shot one of the suspects in the leg. The injured suspect fled the scene but was later found dead a short distance away.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been established.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the incident. They are Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.

Police also recovered a panga at the scene, while the body of the deceased was conveyed to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Kituuma said investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and trace the suspects who fled.

“Investigations are continuing, including efforts to establish the circumstances of the attack and trace the suspects who fled,” he said.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify or locate the suspects to report to the nearest police station.

“Please also report any suspicious activity that may be connected to this incident,” Kituuma said.

Police say they remain alert and prepared to respond promptly to attacks on police facilities.
