Adeke Takes FDC Whip Role After Nsibambi Crosses Floor

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has appointed Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament Anne Adeke Ebaju as its new Party Whip, replacing Yusuf Nsibambi, who recently defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The change was formally communicated on the floor of Parliament by Speaker Anita Among during Wednesday’s plenary sitting.

She said she had received a letter from the FDC Secretary General dated March 16, 2026, confirming the appointment.

“I am in receipt of a letter… appointing Anne Adeke Ebaju as Party Whip replacing Yusuf Nsibambi,” Among told the House, before congratulating Adeke on her appointment and Nsibambi on his move.

Adeke is a trained lawyer and has been serving as the Woman MP for Soroti City. Her appointment comes as Parliament considers key stages of the 2026/27 national budget.

Nsibambi’s defection to the NRM adds to many similar shifts in party allegiance in Parliament in recent years. The Mawokota South MP was defeated in the January presidential and parliamentary elections.

He then announced that he was crossing from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) led by President Yoweri Museveni.

Under Article 83(1)(g) of the 1995 Constitution, a Member of Parliament may lose their seat if they leave the political party on whose ticket they were elected, unless the move falls under legally recognised exceptions such as a party merger or split.
