The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, missed his campaign rally in Madi-Okollo District due to the impassable state of the roads leading to the venue.
Kyagulanyi, who launched his West Nile campaign at Kopio Grounds in Pakwach District on Monday, 17 November 2025, was scheduled to address another rally at Nile Valley Grounds in Kamu Kamu Trading Centre, Aliba Parish, Rigbo Subcounty. However, he did not arrive, leaving supporters who had gathered as early as midday disappointed.
By 7:30 pm, most supporters had left the venue after police and army officers deployed for security also vacated the area. David Akua, a resident, said that although Kyagulanyi’s rally flopped, it gave locals a rare chance to see armoured police vehicles due to the heavy security deployment.
Sinadungu Mahad, who travelled from Ewanga Subcounty, said he arrived at the venue at around 2 pm and waited until 7:30 pm, but Kyagulanyi never appeared.
In a statement issued on his official Facebook page on Monday evening, Kyagulanyi attributed the failed rally to the poor state of the roads.
“We have opened our presidential campaign trail in the West Nile with a rally at Kopio grounds in Pakwach district. We have been warmly welcomed by a big crowd of supporters who convened to listen to our gospel of freedom. Unfortunately, the terrible state of the dusty roads has disabled us from reaching our people of Madi-Okollo on time,” the statement reads in part.
According to the official campaign programme, Kyagulanyi is expected to hold rallies in Nebbi and Zombo districts on Tuesday.
