Munyagwa Puts Campaign on Hold to Back His Kampala Candidates

The Common Man’s Party President Mubarak Munyagwa has halted his presidential campaigns to escort Kampala party candidates to the nomination exercise.

Munyagwa, clad in a black suit, red tie, and cap, entered the Electoral Commission office with his aides to nominate two Common Man’s Party candidates vying for Nakawa West and Kawempe South seats.

The two Common Man’s Party candidates escorted by Munyagwa are Lwamiti Apuri, who is vying for the Nakawa West seat, and Engineer Ssenjako Dafara, who is seeking to represent Kawempe South in Parliament.

Munyagwa said he had to halt his campaign today to escort his two candidates, whom he described as ‘formidable contenders.

“I had to pause my campaign today to escort and nominate my two candidates. Given that we’re a party that’s only two months old, you wouldn’t expect us to field many candidates, but we’re confident that we’re putting forward the best,” Munyagwa said.

He further noted that they had received many aspiring candidates, but were cautious about handing out party tickets due to suspicions of infiltration by outsiders.

Lwamiti, formerly associated with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), said he was driven to join the Common Man’s Party due to concerns over rampant land grabbing in Kyanja, Bukoto, and Kalina-Abiri areas.

“Our representatives in Nakawa are all talk, but they lack the determination and effort to truly serve the people,” Lwamiti said. “I’ve lived in Nakawa for most of my life, after university, and I’ve seen firsthand the problems of land grabbing and insecurity that we face. These are the issues I’m committed to fighting.”

Ssenjako, who is running against NUP’s Fred Nyanzi, said he chose the Common Man’s Party because it resonates with his identity as an ordinary citizen.

“I’m a common man, and that’s why I chose the Common Man’s Party – it represents the struggles and concerns of ordinary people who are struggling to make ends meet,” Ssenjako noted.

Meanwhile, the nomination process for Kampala district parliamentary representatives is ongoing at the district electoral commission headquarters in Ntinda.
