UCU Dean’s Suspected Killer further Remanded

Mukono grade one magistrate Praise Ahurira  has today further remanded the 21-year-old man Dak Hussein Taewaiko, who suspected of murdering former Director of Students Affairs at Uganda Christian University, Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze. The suspect is remanded until 8 April 2026.

Today Dak appeared before the magistrate for further mention on the charges against him, which include murder and aggravated robbery.

On 11th February this year at Gwafu West Cell, located in Goma Division, Mukono District where a killers invaded Pamela’s home and strangled her to death.
The Senior Resident Attorney, Josephine Nanyonga, informed the court that investigations into these charges are still ongoing and asked for another day for mention, which the magistrate granted and returned Taewaiko to Luzira Prison.

Unlike on his previous court appearance of February 20, when he arrived under heavy guard by Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT), today’s hearing saw Taewaiko brought by routine prison warders. He waited briefly on the veranda before the charges were formally read to him in the magistrate’s chambers.

The session unfolded in the presence of members of Tumwebaze’s grieving family, who sat quietly, their sorrow evident as during the proceedings.

The gruesome murder occurred in the early hours of February 11, 2026, at Tumwebaze’s residence in Gwafu West Cell, Goma Division, Mukono District. According to police accounts, an intruder broke into the home while Tumwebaze, 46, was asleep in her bedroom. She was overpowered and strangled to death.

The assailant reportedly then confronted the house help, demanding keys and other valuables before fleeing the scene dressed in some of the victim’s clothing. The items taken included a mobile phone and a laptop bag.

Tumwebaze was rushed to Mukono Namirembe Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The shocking crime sent ripples of grief through Uganda Christian University, where she had served as Director of Student Affairs, guiding student welfare, discipline, and campus life with dedication.
