After a year-long break from acting, Tom Holland is back and busier than ever. Not only is he set to don the Spider-Man suit once more, but he’s also stepping into uncharted territory by taking on significant new roles. Holland will star in Christopher Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey and is expected to reprise his Spidey role in upcoming Avengers films.
But Holland isn’t stopping there. He’s now attached to an adaptation of one of John Grisham’s most celebrated legal thrillers.
According to Deadline, Holland has signed on to lead and produce The Partner, based on Grisham’s 1997 novel. The project, backed by Universal Pictures, features a screenplay by Graham Moore, the Oscar-winning writer behind The Imitation Game. While John Lee Hancock (The Founder, The Blind Side) was initially set to direct, the film currently lacks a director.
Holland will play Patrick Lanigan, a lawyer who fakes his own death and goes on the run, embodying a character that straddles the line between anti-hero and fugitive. This role marks another step in Holland’s ongoing effort to diversify his acting portfolio beyond traditional hero archetypes.
Grisham’s Legacy
John Grisham, one of the best-selling authors of the modern era, is no stranger to Hollywood adaptations. Films like The Firm and The Pelican Brief are iconic examples of his legal thrillers brought to life. However, The Partner has yet to make its way to the big screen—until now.
The novel’s synopsis teases a gripping story of deception, betrayal, and moral ambiguity, making it a perfect vehicle for Holland to showcase his dramatic chops. This role could also position Holland for potential award recognition, though that’s likely not his primary motivation. Instead, the project underscores his commitment to tackling complex, layered characters.
As fans eagerly await the release of these upcoming projects, it’s clear that Tom Holland’s post-hiatus career is off to an electrifying start.
