The Anti-Corruption Court is expected to deliver its judgment in the Nandutu-Iron sheets case

The Anti-Corruption Court is expected to deliver its judgment today at 2 PM in the case against former State Minister Agnes Nandutu concerning the theft of iron sheets designated for the impoverished communities in Karamoja.

Nandutu, who previously served as the State Minister for the Karamoja sub-region, is charged with tampering with 2,000 pieces of iron sheets that were intended to benefit these communities.

The case began in 2023 when the then Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo, sanctioned charges of dealing with suspect property against Nandutu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bududa and the State Minister for Finance, Amos Lugoloobi.

However, in November of last year, the DPP withdrew charges against Lugoloobi without providing any reasons, leaving Nandutu to face the allegations alone.

In her defence, Nandutu blames her troubles on her then-senior minister, Mary Gorreth Kitutu, whose charges related to the diversion of the Karamoja iron sheets have been halted by the Constitutional Court, following her complaint of inhumane treatment during her arrest.

If found guilty, Nandutu faces a minimum imprisonment term of seven years and a ban from holding public office.
