The speaker of Parliament Anita Among has publicly paraded before President Museveni, Florence Asio the lady whom the National Unity Platform Party had selected as its flag bearer for Bukedea district woman MP.
Among who is also the NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson [Female] produced Asio at Emokori grounds in Bukedea district where President Yoweri Museveni held his presidential campaign rally this afternoon.
The opposition party NUP had alleged that Asio was kidnapped before the Electoral Commission nomination exercise, which ended on 23rd October 2025.
However, a few days after nominations, Asio, in a video, emphatically refuted the allegations of kidnap, saying her decision not to appear on the day of nomination was as a result of family pressure, considering her relationship with Among.
Today Among paraded her before the president saying, “Your Excellency, this is Asio Florence, my daughter, whom NUP brought to contest against me. She has never been in NUP. She has never been a politician,” Speaker Anita Among said as Asio was ushered in for a photo moment with Museveni.
In response, President Museveni thanked the people of Bukedea for electing Among unopposed and slammed NUP for failing to carry out due diligence on their party members.
“The people of Bukedea, I want to thank you for electing my daughter, Anita Among unopposed and showing how shallow and bogus NUP is because the girl I took a picture with is a relative of Anita Among,” Museveni said.
He added, “She is the one they were hoping to stand against Anita Among because they didn’t even know who their members are.”
He also thanked David Omagor for stepping down for the NRM flagbearer, Hon. Patrick Isiagi for Kachumbala County.
“Thank you for not wasting time and resources to compete just for the sake of competing,” he said.
