Relief and Grief as NRM Parliamentary Primaries Conclude
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party parliamentary primaries ended yesterday with scenes of early celebrations in some areas and disputes in other places
By 5:00 pm, most polling stations across the country had closed, and supporters and candidates were streaming to district tally centres to await official results expected later in the evening.
The Former Attorney General Fred Ruhindi has been declared the winner of the NRM Nakawa East Parliamentary flag bearer race.
Ruhindi was declared winner with 91 percent, translating to 8,619 Votes and his rival Ssegirinya David Kintu obtained 839 votes.
Relatedly, former Rubaga Deputy Resident Commissioner Herbert Anderson Burora has also been declared the winner of the Nakawa West flag. with 51 percent of the vote defeating Nantongo Margaret Zziwa the former EALA Speaker. Other notable winners are

Former Trade, Industry and Co-operatives Minister Amelia Kyambadde and Singh Katongole, formerly Head Entrepreneurs League in the NRM, have won the primary polls in their respective constituencies.
Kyambadde, who was beaten to the Mawokota North seat in 2021, beat Sam Akol, her only challenger. Akol had earlier announced to the media that he had withdrawn from the race, citing armed intimidation of voters.
However, the Mpigi District returning officer, Francis Bbunye, said Akol didn’t fulfil the withdrawal process, and therefore could not be struck off the list of contestants.
In Rubaga Division in Kampala, Katongole beat four others, having polled 6,690 votes, followed by Isaak Lwanga with 683, and three others, as Robert Kato, the Returning Officer, announced.
LOSERS
David Bahati, Minister of State for Trade, was not so lucky he has lost National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for Ndorwa West County in Kabale District. Bahati lost to Kampala-based lawyer Eliab Naturinda Mporera.
Barbra Ainebyoona, Kabale District NRM Party registrar, declared Naturinda winner in the wee hours of Friday morning with 25,027 votes, representing 50.9 percent.
Bahati garnered 23,759 votes, representing 48.3 percent.
