President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dr Micheal Atingi-Ego Governor of the Bank of Uganda.

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dr Micheal Atingi-Ego Governor of the Bank of Uganda.
 
The hitherto Deputy Governor replaces the late Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, who died in January 2021, after a long illness.
Economist Dr Augustus Nuwagaba becomes the Deputy Governor, according to Sandor Walusimbi, the Senior Presidential Press Secretary.
 
This ends years of speculation and uncertainty as to why the president had neither appointed a substantive governor nor an acting one.
 
An economist, Atingi-Ego served previously as Executive Director of the Macroeconomics and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI), based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
 
The deputy, Augustus Nuwagaba is an international consultant on Economic Transformation. He is a wealth creation expert in Africa. He is qualified (MBA) in application of central bank monetary policy on commercial bank competitiveness.
