Police Launch Citywide Anti-Crime Operations, Five Nabbed in Rubaga Sweep

In response to a surge in reported crimes, Kampala Metropolitan Police have launched ongoing operations in the central business district, targeting areas such as Old Kampala, CPS, Wandegeya, and Lubaga division.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, the operations aim to address rising cases of mugging, house breakings, and drug peddling.

“We have been recording a sharp increase of crimes reported within the central business district… We want to assure the public that we are doing everything possible to ensure their safety,” said Owoyesigyire while addressing Journalists at police headquarters in Nagulu today.

Last week, an intelligence-led operation in Lubaga division near Monalisa bar resulted in the arrest of five suspects – Vicent Kawoya, Wyclif Kitayimbwa, Muhammad Ali, Abdul Woli, and Eria Kula. Eria Kula, identified by the community as a major supplier of marijuana and other drugs, was found to be selling these substances to school-going children, contributing to addiction and dropout rates.

Owoyesigyire commended the community’s involvement in identifying and apprehending Kula, saying, “We thank the parents and the community for personally identifying this gentleman… We call upon the collective effort of members of the community, parents, to always come out and give us information,” said Owoyesigyire

Owoyesigyire says Kula is currently detained at Old Kampala police station awaiting trial.
