A security guard from Ultimate Security Company shot and killed two colleagues at the company’s Mbuya offices on Wednesday morning before police shot him dead during a swift response to the attack.
The victims have been identified as Noella Zella, an Assistant Human Resource Officer, and Bwampata Salez, the company’s Armory Officer. The suspected shooter, Mwaawa Richard, also worked for the same firm as a security guard.
Police say Mwaawa stormed the offices around 9:00 AM and opened fire, first killing Zella before turning the weapon on Salez. Officers from Jinja Road Police Station, acting on an emergency call, arrived at the scene and fatally shot Mwaawa as he posed an ongoing threat.
Police recovered the firearm used in the incident and sent it for forensic analysis. They also transported all three bodies to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examinations. Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said detectives are still investigating what motivated the shooting.
“We urge the public to stay calm as we conduct a thorough investigation into this unfortunate event,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement.
