Phina Mugerwa Pledges to Push for Construction of Mega Auditorium at National Theatre

Singer Phina Mugerwa says that the ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development is engaged in ongoing discussions to build a state-of-the-art auditorium at the National Theatre in Kampala.

She said the auditorium will have conference rooms, offices, and spaces for different activities with construction starting soon.

She noted that the government has already secured the funding and those artisans who sell crafts at the National Theatre have been told to find an alternative space elsewhere until the construction is over.

“They were given a month to vacate their shops because construction of the auditorium is about to start. This is good news for the creatives who use the place. The construction of this infrastructure is one of the achievements we want to achieve as a board that was appointed to manage affairs of UNCC for the next three years,” she said in an interview.

She, however, said that the Current National Theatre Auditorium will not be demolished because of its historical significance.

The project is projected to be completed by 2031.
