One Dead in Fire Outbreak at Downtown Motel
According to Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the fire started on the ground floor of the hotel, located along Rashid Khamis Road, opposite Mukwano Mall, around 10:00 a.m.
He noted that thick smoke filled the corridors and rooms, hindering evacuation efforts.
Emergency responders quickly intervened, deploying six fire trucks with firefighters, four 999 Patrol Cars, territorial police, ambulances, and Red Cross ambulances.
Despite their efforts, a 45-year-old male was found deceased, Onyango confirmed.
He noted that the operation to extinguish the fire was successful, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
