Muhangi Plans Counter Suit as Bebe Cool Snubs Mediation Talks in Copyright Saga

Comedy Store events producer and organizer Alex Muhangi has said he is going to sue singer Bebe Cool for failing to perform at comedy store in February,2025.

The move was announced by Muhangi’s lawyer Robert Rutaro of Elgon Advocates, Uganda who represented him at the city hall court on Tuesday 1st, April,2025 during a hearing about the copyright infringement case against him.

“ This is our next move because Bebe Cool was paid a deposit of Ugx 1,000,000 through mobile money as deposit for him to perform which he refused to refund and on top of that he was paid the balance of Ugx 5,000,000 cash but threw it at Muhangi and drove back to his home without performing,” Rutaro said.

He said Bebe Cool’s refusal to perform on that show caused a huge financial loss to Alex Muhangi and is the reason why they are going ahead to sue because they would like Bebe Cool to pay for damages caused.

He added that Muhangi will be filing another case of contract breach because he participated in the making of Bebe Cool’s music video for the hit “Wakaima and never got his payment of Ugx 30,000,000.

Rutaro also revealed  that they have failed to settle the copyright infringement case out of court because Bebe Cool and his lawyers refused to meet them for a discussion about the case.

Bebe Cool dragged Muhangi to court following a suit he filed against the comedian accusing him of financially benefiting from musical performances that are posted on Muhangi’s social media platforms including YouTube without Bebe Cool’s authorization.

“ We had agreed to meet in Kungu,Kyanja to discuss the issue with Bebe Cool’s lawyers but Bebe Cool refused to show up,” Rutaro stated.
