Linos Ngompek Retains Kibanda North Parliamentary Seat

Linos Ngompek, the incumbent Kibanda North Constituency legislator in Kiryandongo District, has retained his seat.

Ngompek, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, was declared the winner in the wee hours of Wednesday at 12:45 am, defeating seven other candidates. He polled 14,564 votes.

He was followed by Iddi Tabban Amin, an independent candidate, who secured 8,444 votes. Benjamin Lumansi of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party came third with 343 votes. Rogers Alinaitwe of the National Unity Platform (NUP) placed fourth with 257 votes, while David Bagonza, an independent candidate, came fifth with 85 votes.

Zechariah Ochan of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) finished sixth with 84 votes, Taylor Bahati Likambo, an independent candidate, placed seventh with 58 votes, and William Wetaka of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) trailed with 39 votes. The election results were declared by Rashid Musinguzi, the Kiryandongo District Returning Officer.

Speaking shortly after being declared the winner, Ngompek said his priorities would include fighting land grabbing in the constituency, improving health service delivery, and initiating wealth creation programmes among his electorate.

Ngompek also appealed to his political opponents to work with him to foster development in Kibanda North Constituency and Kiryandongo District at large.

Voting in Kibanda North Constituency had earlier been suspended on January 15 after the Electoral Commission discovered that the name and photograph of Benjamin Lumansi, a candidate from the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue party, were missing from the ballot papers.

The Commission later set Tuesday, January 27, 2026, as the new polling date for the election of the directly elected Member of Parliament for the constituency. According to the Electoral Commission, Kibanda North Constituency has 240 polling stations across nine sub-counties, with a total of 106,926 registered voters.
