Gov’t Tables UGX 57.4Trn Budget Estimate for New FY

The government has tabled a 57.4 trillion shillings budget estimate for the 2025/26 financial year.

This is a significant drop form the UGX72Trn National Budget for the current financial year.

The finance minister has also revelaed that in the coming financial year, there will be no new taxes introduced but rather, there will be a revision of the current tax laws.

Minister of State for Finance, Henry Musasizi, tabled the National Budget Framework Paper 2025/2026 during plenary last evening.

The national budget framework paper presented will run under the theme full monetization of Uganda’s economy through commercial agriculture, industrialization, expanding services and digital transformation, and market access.

The minister pointed out that the economy had fully recovered from the shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 “Uganda’s economy has fully recovered and is on the right growth path driven by investments in the 10 fold economic growth areas, currently there is high business and investment optimism in Uganda with inflation contained below 2.9%.” he remarked.

Musasizi informed MPs of the priorities for the upcoming financial year.

“The FY 2025/2026 budget will continue to prioritize the following economic fundamentals Peace and security, roads, railways, electricity, irrigation, reducing cost of capital, Human capital development, water, international relations and disaster management.” he stated.

The deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa has asked parliament’s sectoral committees and budget committee to scrutinize the budget framework paper and reminded them, parliament has up to 1st February to pass it .
