Eddie Mutwe and Co. Shipped Back to Court for Hearing on Unlawful Drilling Charges

Two National Unity Platform (NUP) members, including the party’s head of mobilization, Edward Ssebufu, popularly known as Eddie Mutwe and Achileo Kivumbi have been brought back to the Kawempe magsitrates court on charges of unlawful drilling and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Ssebufu 43, and Kivumbi 46, have been brought back amidst tight security by the Uganda Police. 

The duo have been kept on remand since their first court appearance on the 14th/ August 2025.

Prosecution states that on February 12, 2025, at the NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule, Wandegeya, Kawempe Division, the two, together with others still at large, attended a meeting or assembly of persons held without the permission of the Minister.

Prosecution adds that the said  gathering was allegedly aimed at training or drilling participants in military exercises, movements, and evolutions, contrary to Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.

In a second count, the duo is accused of conspiring to commit a felony. Court heard that on the same day and at the same venue, they  agreed with others still at large to engage in unlawful drilling, an offence under Section 363 of the Penal Code Act.

Both Ssebufu and Kivumbi denied the charges.
