In a major step toward environmental protection, Crown Beverages Limited has launched a Plastic Waste Collection Center in Hoima City in partnership with Reclaim, a company that specializes in collecting and recycling plastic waste.
The center aims to promote responsible plastic waste management in Hoima and eventually roll out similar initiatives countrywide.
At the launch event, Crown Beverages Commercial Manager Rogers Anguzu emphasized that the partnership is a reflection of the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable development. He said it represents an investment in securing a cleaner, safer future for Uganda and the planet.
“We have a program called Tweyambe, in Luganda it means ‘let us help ourselves’, so this is what we are doing. We are helping ourselves. We call upon the communities to dispose plastic waste responsibly. Next year we are going to launch the Mbale one, In Kampala, next I’m going to give them a challenge to spread to other cities so that we can cover the whole of Uganda”.
Hoima Deputy City Mayor, Sylvia Nalumagga Baryesiima, commended the initiative, describing poor garbage disposal as one of the city’s biggest environmental challenges. She welcomed the project, noting that it will support ongoing efforts to protect the environment while also creating economic opportunities for residents through paid plastic collection.
The center will act as a hub for collecting, sorting, and transporting plastic waste for recycling, and is expected to significantly reduce the volume of plastic pollution in the region.
“This collaboration brings much-needed infrastructure and awareness to local plastic waste challenges, and we are committed, working together with Crown Beverages Limited, to promote a cleaner environment,” said Junior Kwebiha Zerubabel, the CEO, Reclaim.
The initiative is part of a growing movement in Uganda to integrate environmental responsibility into corporate social responsibility programs and empower local communities in the process.
