The Anti-corruption court has sentenced a former police officer to pay a court fine of shs 2.5m and further compensate Government with 20.6 million shillings he unlawfully received as Salary after his voluntary resignation from the force.
This is after Oyet Francis was convicted on his plea of guilty after he admitted to causing government a 20.65 million shillings loss, for drawing a government salary without working.
Oyet was jointly indicted with Aryatuha Dorah, a principle Human Resource officer who neglected to delete him from the payroll.
Oyet is the first person to be convicted and sentenced among a dozen officials who were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption regarding ghost government beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the same court has sent out a second set of summons against the former MUBs principal Prof. Wasswa Balunywa, after he failed to turn up today.
Prof. Balunywa instead sent his lawyer Asuman Matovu to inform court that he is not in good health but will turp in court as soon he feels better.
Chief magistrate Reachel Nakyazze has then declined to issue an arrest warrant against Prof.Balunywa as asked by the prosecution and issued summons requiring Prof. Balunywa to appear in court on 2nd September.
The 68 year old Prof . Balunywa is indicted for unlawfully recruiting three individuals as Administrative Assistants at MUBS.
According to prosecution, the said appointments created ineligible costs to government which constituted Abuse of office.
