The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a new limit on ticket purchases for the CHAN games at Namboole Stadium, restricting buyers to a maximum of three tickets per transaction.
The move is aimed at curbing black market sales and duplication of tickets, after reports that some individuals were hoarding tickets and selling them exorbitantly, others were reselling already-used digital tickets, leaving genuine fans stranded outside the gates.
Previously, fans could purchase up to five tickets each, but this has now been cut down to three. According to a report by the Uganda CHAN 2024 Organizing Committee, more than 3,000 fans were turned away from the last Uganda Cranes game due to duplicated tickets. Police also arrested 12 suspects outside the stadium during the Uganda vs South Africa clash for allegedly selling fake tickets to unsuspecting fans.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Uganda Media Centre, Dr. Denis Mugimba, spokesperson for the Uganda CHAN 2024 Local Organizing Committee, said the new ticketing limit will increase access for more fans.
Dr. Mugimba also warned fans against buying physical tickets from black market dealers, emphasizing that all tickets for the tournament are exclusively sold online. “If you’re buying a physical ticket, there’s a big chance that you’ve been defrauded, because all CHAN tickets are sold online; there’s no physical sale of tickets in this tournament,” Mugimba said. In addition, CAF has directed that fans who are found intoxicated or behaving aggressively towards other supporters, stewards, or security personnel will be denied entry to the stadium, even if they hold a valid ticket.
The Uganda Cranes will take on defending champions Senegal in the CHAN 2024 quarterfinals on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 8:30 PM at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Match-day ticket sales officially opened on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 9:00 AM.
